I hope you're right, but I found a website (collegehillshonda),USA, which shows the complete installation of the spolier and brake light. The cover plate has lugs and is fixed by screws to the spoiler. The only way to access the screws is to remove the spoiler from the tailgate. If you do replace the unit, a few photos and a brief description would be very handy to post up for others to follow if needs be.
