Hi all. Just thought I'd comment on access to the oil filter Mk2 2.0 petrol) in case anyone didn't already know! 

All the guides seem to state that you need to raise the car up to access the filter. We'll, having just changed mine I can tell you that's not necessary. If you point the steering to the right, you can easily reach the filter through the wheel arch. Simple. 

 

Next on the list is valve clearances...

Thanks for the useful information, certainly makes life easier especially if you are of an age like myself where crawling under the vehicle is getting more difficult over time.

Much easier to access through the wheel arch but would need a bunch of rags below to catch the spills.

 

Let us know how you get on with the valves, although i imagine you would need to lift the bonnet to access them 🙂

10w40 semi synthetic would be fine to use.
