Volume control light and surroundings buttons not lighting up

Tonight I noticed that the lights on my volume controll knob and surrounding buttons dont illuminate like they should. Is this common, does anyone have any advice on what to do or how to fix this issue?

Not sure, but does it relate to the instrument panel illumination dimmer control and when the lights are on/off?
