Hi all, trying to find which pulley bearings are noisy on my 05 accord 2.4 tourer - its the ones driven by the Serpentine drive belt, I had alternator checked, but that is perfect and not the problem, my local garage can not find which pulley bearings are the problem - what do all the pulleys drive, alternator, water pump, air con compressor and tensioner but what else please, any help appreciated - I don`t want to wait until it fails but would rather fix it before that happens - I will not go to Honda dealership as I no longer trust them, apart from the outrageous price - Any advice appreciated.

Hey,

Sorry to jump on your question, but I'd be interested to know about this too.

I recently bought a 54 tourer with the same issue. I was made aware of it by the seller who said it was a common fault. I had no idea, but trusted him.

Obviously would like to get it sorted before it creates any real problems. It's intermittent and from what I can tell doesn't effect the cars driving or performance.

Hi, my car drives like a dream as it always has - its just the rattle sound that`s driving me mad, its obviously a worn/dry bearing on one of the pulleys but the mechanic cant find which one, on mine its there all the time but goes a little quieter when being driven - I am trying to get it sorted out before it causes possible damage.

Fingers crossed someone will provide some advice.

Update:

Yeah the noise is driving me mad too. Someone at the McDonald's drive-thru commented it sounded like something had fallen off. Thanks 🙄

Took mine to a local Honda specialist today.

The mechanic had a listen & after stating "f*****g hell that sounds like a tractor",  identified a couple of bearings he thinks the noise is coming from.

It's booked in to have the work done on Friday morning.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi Tomsk, thanks for the reply, please let me know if you get an answer - I wont use Honda dealership after they buggered my auto box up and charged me over £500 to do so, ended up at Thameside Transmision for complete recon box at cost of £2010 they were great and I can highly recommend them - been great ever since but I no longer use Honda, which is a pity as I have always used them prior to that.

Please let me know and also cost if its sorted.

Cheers

No worries Jimbo, hopefully we can get to the bottom of it.

I've ordered what I think are the correct parts. 1 tensioner & 1 guide pulley. Combined cost was £70. I'll find out on Friday if they're the right ones 🤞 Honestly it was early when I spoke to the mechanic & I'd not had much coffee so it'll be pure fluke if I have the bits I need.

I've not used a Honda main dealer before, but just looking at their service prices was enough to put me off which is why I'm using an independent specialist.

Am I right in thinking you have the 2.4 petrol? Mine is the 2.2 diesel.

Yes 2.4 automatic tourer, bought it in 2008 and always used official Honda main dealer up to the gearbox problem - had 4 Honda cars in the past, all brilliant cars and all serviced and repaired by Honda main dealership but now only use independent garages with mechanics that I trust - and saved a LOT of money doing so, it now has 165,000 miles on the clock and is smooth as silk - I love it, I have been thinking of changing it for a smaller car for the last 5 years but it owes me nothing and its top of the range with every extra so I cant really justify changing it and I am doing less than 3,000 miles a year so I keep it - but would love a nice 7 seat Discovery ! Anyway will wait to see what your outcome is, get mine sorted and have a rethink again ! 🤔

I thought I had better explain that last bit - 2 years ago went on holiday to cornwall 7 of us and our dog - hired a 2019 Discovery HSE it was superb for the trip ! I just priced a 7 seater for hire for 2 weeks this year - £2500 plus !!!!!!!!!!! So if I sold my Honda, put some more money to it I could buy a 7 seater - I resent hiring one at £2500 for 14 days - I would rather buy one ! Hope that makes some kind of sense ?

Hi Tomsk,

How did you go on with your mechanic on Friday, did you find out the problem ?
