Radio code

Can anyone help please . I have just become the proud owner of an immaculate 1996 Civic V tec. The radio will not let me enter the security code (which I have) most likely due to the incorrect method being used. I really want to keep the car original and would love to retain the radio . Any ideas please?

May be worth trying the dealer for the code sometimes costs but mostly I have got it for free
You will need the radio serial number and maybe the registration document to prove ownership
