  1. Sorry if I'm digging up an old thread but can I just ask on the rear shocks, would I be correct in thinking it was just the shock strut?

i.e. Did you have to re-use your existing springs, top mount and bottom eye bushing?

I ended up getting 2 front shocks from Cox Motor Parts (sales@coxmotorparts.co.uk) for £140 each - not bad considering the other prices I was quoted.  However, I was not charged UK VAT as I had them shipped outside the UK.  With UK VAT, they would have been £168 each, still not bad.

I bought aftermarket Daco shocks for the rear from onlinecarparts.co.uk for £28 each - pretty cheap.  The exact model was Daco 551204.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Hi Folks, hopfully this topic hasn't been covered,

My 06' FRV Rear Hatch Struts (this part 04741-SJD-000) are fairly squeeky and have lost a bit of their lifting power.

My question is has anyone replaced their rear hatch struts?

And specifically can you just replace the strut or do I need to replace the fixing brackets too?

    Thanks in advance 👍🏻

Hi. Just giving some friendly advice about what brands of clutch and flywheel to fit following a three week debacle we've had. I bought a Borg and Beck clutch and Valeo dual mass flywheel (DMF) from parts in motion as they were a great price and respected brands. These were about £60 cheaper than LUK and as at the time LUK were out of stock I opted for these. Big mistake.

To shorten the story, the clutch and DMF were fitted correctly by a decent garage and the gear lever really had to be forced to engage gears, 5th and reverse were particularly difficult especially when the engine was hot. The garage was reluctant to give back to me but as we needed the car we took back. It was awful.

Parts in motion acknowledged the problem without quibble and sent out an LUK clutch (at extra cost) as it was deemed this was the problem as Borg and beck is a non adjustable clutch, luk is self adjusting and OEM spec.

Fitted this, same problem. Labour bill now £416.

Advised parts in motion, and again, without quibble, sent out an LUK flywheel and bolts and gave me a 10% discount for the hassle.

All now fitted (another £180) and the car drives like new. So advice is, Only use matching clutch and DMF not mis matched brands and I suggest only LUK. No reason why it shouldn't work with other brands according to catalogues but thought I'd share the advice.

Parts in motion are now going through their warranty procedure to get me the £416 labour returned for incompatible parts and original parts cost back a further £478.98.

Hope this helps someone as surely frv/CRV/civic and accord would have similar issues.

Great bit of advice thanks for posting 👍🏻

  4. Came here to say the exact same as above, goes without saying but obviously do an MOT history check.

I got my FRV a year ago for £600 (great) but obviously had a few issues.

    1. Rusted Arches

    2. Worn Clutch,

    3. Worn drop/end links

    4. Worn rear break pads and disks (this was due to a stuck caliper)

I would say check these but I got mine so cheap I didn't mind putting few quid into it.

Spent about 300 upfront on the breaks (cleaned a greased the calipers), drop links and bushes and a service.

Booked in next week for a clutch and full detailed service with a Honda service center for approx 600.

    Hope this helps..

  5. Hi Folks,

Im looking for advice on a good clutch kit for my '06 1.7 ltr Petrol FRV.

I've looked and LUK and Edix has been mentioned to me, but I'm thinking of upgrading the clutch to maybe somthing like this:

    https://www.akr-performance.com/p/act-clutch-kit-heavy-duty-20t212mm-performance-street-sprung-disc-hc5-hdss

Has anyone upgraded their FRV clutch and or would anyone have any advice or suggestions on the brand/type to go for?

    Thanks,

    Anthony

  6. Right so lads another random question/topic on the Honda FRV.

Has anyone ever installed bull bars (push bars) to the front bumper of their FRV?

Also will a bull bar from say an '06 CRV fit the FRV? I'm told both are based on the same frame so thinking they might fit?..

  7. Yeah I just think Honda Capitilise on the CAR/SUV crossover hype as the FRV really is the best of both worlds and then some with the extra seat.

I did do some digging and looks like you can get nearly new (Sub 50k kiloms) in from Japan, but your talking €4-5k for the car and another €4-5k for delivery/registration etc.

  8. Hey Pete, pretty sure there is already a thread in here with the part no. for it.

Do a quick search but let me know if you can't find it and I will see if I can dig one, also there is few decent YouTube videos about this exact thing if have a look on there 👍

  9. Hi Lads,

Im probably going to get lots of biased opinions posting here but I wanted to guage if there is an appetite for bringing the FRV back?

I love my FRV but is kinda old and falling apart and I would absolutely love to see one in a new or near-new condition (unfortunately there is none in Ireland).

Also with the popularity of cross overs "SUV's" I think with a little style change and slightly higher suspension the FRV would make the absolute megga cross over?!?

    So, any opinions??

Is there any other FRV fans out there and if so, how many?

    🤓🤓

    • Thanks 1
  10. Thanks VanDer, yeah will give the disks another go this weekend.

Also while changing my break pads, I discovered one of my slide pins was stuck, (was planning to anyway) but took both out, cleaned and greased them and went back in like new and the difference in the drive, a lot less noise and vibration, I knew it would make a difference but still surprised at how dramatic a difference it made.

  11. Hope you guys don't mind me hijacking this tread, but after all my talk earlier, I ended up changing my rear break pads and disks on my FRV today, well trying but couldn't get the discs off as they seemed to be held in by 2 screws, now I couldn't get these screws to budge (snapped 2 Phillips head screw drivers in the process) has anyone else had this? Or has anyone changed their rear break disks? And are these screws important? Don't want to reemer them if they are vital ect.?

  12. If the pull is inconsistent then it could be somthing that is actioned that is causing it i.e breaks sticking then lossening, you may have already checked this but could it be your break fluid pressure, could there be a small leak in one of the lines causing them to lose pressure and or stick.

Also when redoing your break calipers did you clean a re-grease you caliper slide pins as they can cause uneven break-wear, rubbing on sticking if bad enough?

Again sounds like you know all this but hope this helps

  13. Hey Folks,

Can anyone advise me on how to fix my 06 1.7ltrs petrol FRV radiotor in place.

Was poking around the engine bay the other day and noticed the radiator is sitting loose, looks like some on doing repairs in the past never fixed all the screws back in place.

Would anyone have pics or info on where/what screws/bolts should be holding the radiator in place?

  14. So to expand on this a little more, I'm thinking of keeping my 15" steelies but putting All-Terrain tyres on, looks like the smallest ATs I can get is 205/65 R15 which is one size up from the recommended size of 195/65R15 or 205/55R15 etc.

Has anyone tried fitting AT's and if so has anyone encountered any rubbing issues?

  15. Hi Folks,

Probably should have started this tread before buying mine, but still think it's a good topic for discussion, so what in your knowledgeable opinions would be the best FRV engine type out all the options to buy?

  16. Hi Folks,

The forum gods suggested I do an into post so here goes.

Bought my first Honda after years of my brother saying they are great cars.

Bought an 06 FRV with 130k miles, great little 6 seater car, my Mechanic even approved (which is saying somthing) going to try fix it up as a weekend/mini camper.

So any tips on fitting all terrain tyres, roof rails, new seats, storage for tents etc. very much welcome and appreciated!

  17. Clutch is going on my FRV, 130k miles, looks like clutch kits are going for around €250-300, my mechanic says he can have it all done for me for less €400. Am I right in thinking you would normally look at replacing the clutch at around 150k miles or so?

  18. Not to Hijack a tread but while on the subject of wheels has anyone attempted to put on larger diameter wheels on an FRV or have any suggestions as to how large one could go before having rubbing issues?

(personally, to me the stock wheels just look too small and the car would look a lot nicer with a slightly larger wheel)

Edit* just re-Read the first reply and realised you mention you 17inc alloys on so yeah they would be bigger then my stock 15's 😂🤣

  19. Wow yeah looks like it's bolted in place, I have gone ahead and bought the the 2006 FRV, great car but needs some work, after I get the all clear from the Mechanic I'm gona take a little peak under the rood trim to see if there is mounting points and if so, I'm off to the scrappy to get a set of roof rails 👍
