  1. Trevor Many thanks for your response. I think I will leave it for a few days until the temperature rises above 0° C. The cold makes the plastic very tough to handle. I will certainly get back to you when I've done the job. Thanks again. Ray
  2. Greetings and a Happy New Year to everyone. I felt I must attempt to share this problem with other CR-V owners. My driver side seat belt in my 2005 CR-V often fails to return to the correct position when it is released after use. It generally sits around the floor and prevents the driver side door from closing. I am aware of the cause most likely coming from the inertia reel which is fixed at a low level, behind the hard plastic trim situated between the two doors. The problem is mainly how to gain access to the reel without doing too much damage. The trim covers quite area, and with no obvious points of fixture using screws I assume the only means of access is a messy and expensive removal of said trim. So, does anyone know of a cleaner and less destructive method of access to the inertia reel, repair it and replace the trim please? Many thanks Ray
  3. Ah, Now I have a 2005 Mk 2 and wanting to err on the side of caution asked my mechanic mate who sold me the car to change the timing belt. I was corrected straight away and told they have a chain. So emboldened with new knowledge, I asked him to change the chain. When he stopped laughing he pointed out that the cost would be in the region of £900, and this guy doesn't rip people off. He said that providing the correct oil is regularly changed the chain SHOULD outlast the car. I'm not 100% happy with this, knowing what the consequences of a broken chain are, but he simply reminds me that the car, immaculate I might add when I bought it back in October only cost me £500. So I will change the oil very often and keep the fingers crossed firmly. My one and only fear is that the chain could go on a motorway or other busy road with my two dogs in the back, but check the internet and the same remark comes up, "regular oil and filter change will help to ensure the existing chain outlives the car.🤞
  4. Thanks for all the help and advice on the subject guys. Done and dusted, or rather polished!
  5. KevAmiga Hi Kev, would you care to share the name and model of that Sony radio you replaced and does it have a CD player? It's a radio minefield out there and on eBay you will find the original Honda radio with SatNav and CD player as well as without, some it seems accessible from a slide down screen and many without at all. What's obvious is there are two types of software, one from a CD or DVD, the other available on an App, which is only available on some models with Android. I did see an advert on eBay a few days ago which displayed a Honda radio with a disc about to be inserted. The disc has up to date maps on it but presumably only if you have a radio that can read the data.
  6. Hello everyone I know many of you will think OMG doesn't he know that! But having skimmed through the whole owners manual I still cannot find what the panel on the rear door of the CR-V is for. Looking from the back of a RHD car it's the panel with an obvious gap around it located on the LHS directly beneath the door handle and model letters. At first I thought it may be a storage area, with maybe a corresponding entry behind it on the inside of the door but it's not. I assume that on a LHD car there's one on the opposite side! Any answers please on a postcard to The Dummy in the Honda CR-V Northamptonshire.
  7. Hello everyone. Can anyone advise me on the subject of CR-V headlamp glass. Mine are a slightly cloudy finish which doesn't wipe away. Can anyone tell me if it's a permanent effect that is impossible to remove or polish out, or can the effect be removed somehow. I see that replacements are expensive even from breakers yards. Thanks for your attention. Ray
  8. Hi David Can you send some photos maybe? Thanks Ray
  9. Hi there Ah the problems of new(ish) technology! I have only just managed to buy a 2005 CR-V for a very small price, and am in awe at the standard and variety of 'extras' that came with the car back in 2005. Furthermore this car is in remarkable condition and just needs a general wipe over and an oil and filter change. So it was an interesting conversation that I had with a dog walking friend who told me about a conversation he had with someone in the trade. This may make you smile, or maybe not! Those awfully nice people at Toyota, the ones that have been working so hard on the tantalising idea of the Hydrogen fuel cell car, have come up with another amazing development. A car with a driving range of over 900 miles on one charge of about an hour! But not only that, but the batteries are basically.... Sand! Virtually impossible to catch fire, they have developed the battery with a sand like substance that stores, and passes current. Now watch THAT space!
