August 16, 20214 yr Hi, I've owned a 2015 2.2 Type S for a couple of years now. Recently I've noticed that when the engine starts (hot or cold) it starts with a violent shudder. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Does this spec of car have the vacuum operated engine mounts, could they be faulty or is the rough start up quite normal? It seems to drive okay otherwise. At its recent service the dealer suggested sticking valves could be the cause so they put an additive in...which of course made no difference apart from to my service cost.
August 18, 20214 yr Have you considered if it is a worn Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF) as this can result in a shudder on start up and extreme clunking for a short period on shutting the engine down?
August 18, 20214 yr Author I hadn't thought about the DMF as the car hasn't even done 40k. Is there a manufacturer recommended service interval on these?
August 23, 20214 yr Not really just a measurement in movement on the flywheel components but you can only do this with the transmission removed
