Oil usage

Hi

I've recently bought a Honda CRV (my third Honda CRV in the last 10 years) but in this particular car, my oil light comes on every 1,000-1,500 miles. When I check the dipstick, there is no oul left so I have to keep topping it up. I've read the handbook which states that I may be expected to put 1 litre of oil in every 625 miles. Has anybody else had this problem?
