Posted January 6, 20205 yr Hi Guys, I recently purchased a Honda Civic 2005, 1.6 Engine, Petrol. It had its timing belt changed in 2014 at 49300 miles. 6 years later its done around 55000 miles. Do I need to change the timing belt, or can I continue using it as is?
January 6, 20205 yr Hi ....welcome to the forum I would definitely change it on the basis that it is 6 years old, regardless of mileage in that period. As it is a rubber component the belt is subject to perishing over time. Quite possibly the tensioners and idlers should be okay as they haven't done much work so would only need the belt

August 6, 20214 yr Timing belts replacement periods are based on mileage and also time. Mostly it is 60k miles and 5 years but worth checking when yours was last replaced and if unsure then change it regardless
August 6, 20214 yr The mileage doesn't matter then as the time is overdue for replacement (as rubber components degrade over time)

August 8, 20214 yr I can imagine but with Honda you are guaranteed genuine arts and a full warranty. Is it really necessary to do as car got such low mileage?
