Hi Guys,

I recently purchased a Honda Civic 2005, 1.6 Engine, Petrol.

It had its timing belt changed in 2014 at 49300 miles. 6 years later its done around 55000 miles.

Do I need to change the timing belt, or can I continue using it as is?

Hi ....welcome to the forum

I would definitely change it on the basis that it is 6 years old, regardless of mileage in that period.

As it is a rubber component the belt is subject to perishing over time.

Quite possibly the tensioners and idlers should be okay as they haven't done much work so would only need the belt

Any backstreet mechanic can change a timing belt and water pump on a 00-06 Civic for half that price. There's absolutely no reason to take a car that old to a dealer.
