Greetings and a Happy New Year to everyone. I felt I must attempt to share this problem with other CR-V owners.

My driver side seat belt in my 2005 CR-V often fails to return to the correct position when it is released after use.

It generally sits around the floor and prevents the driver side door from closing.

I am aware of the cause most likely coming from the inertia reel which is fixed at a low level, behind the hard plastic trim situated between the two doors.

The problem is mainly how to gain access to the reel without doing too much damage. The trim covers quite area, and with no obvious points of fixture using screws I assume the only means of access is a messy and expensive removal of said trim.

So, does anyone know of a cleaner and less destructive method of access to the inertia reel, repair it and replace the trim please?

Many thanks Ray

The trim should just pull off and is held by plastic clips which may destroy as you pull the trim off but are replacable

Be careful not to allow the belt to fully retract into the reel (use a sandwich bag clip or similar) and will only retract when in the vertical position

Good luck and let us know how you get on with it

Many thanks for your response. I think I will leave it for a few days until the temperature rises above 0° C. The cold makes the plastic very tough to handle. I will certainly get back to you when I've done the job. Thanks again.
