Hi Everybody

Just bought a 2nd hand 15 reg C RV 2.2 diesel, and LOVING it!  I have just one issue I can't seem to resolve (get my head around) and that's the satnav system and its many variations.  I'm not convinced that I have the updated software and database installed, despite what the dealer tells me.  I have attached a picture of the type I have, which I understand is an HDD type of Honda pedigree, not Garmin.  Device ID is ENB28017078B, Current software version is 1.20.0300, Current Database is Europe version IT203.02.00

Can anyone advise me if these are the up-to-date versions of my system please.

Hi Boris...welcome to the Club

I think you'll find that the version you have is the latest one...I could only find a 2016 version to update mine as the latest one.

It will mostly still work okay as I am currently running a 2007 version and it is fine in the UK as not much has occurred in the way of new motorways and A roads, however in Europe it is way outdated and would suggest using a SatNav (TomTom, etc) to navigate your route.

Cheers,  Trevor

Thanks Trevor.  There seems to be a really chaotic variation of models for Honda satnavs.  Looking on the web is almost pointless, as finding the same model is potluck, but when chatting with another motorist from the south coast who had the same hardware, he said that his dealer had told him that these versions of software and database were out of date.  I hear what you say about the UK road system, but a couple of weeks ago I went to Liverpool and the satnav wanted me to take an A road which had been closed off since the opening of the Mersey Gateway (Oct '17); it was not a major problem, but that is what got me chasing the possibility of an update.  If I find out anything useful I'll be sure to post it.

Best regards

Boris

As promised here is an update in my search for information about updates to my satnav.  I contacted Honda who supplied the name of the manufacturer.  Unfortunately, the first enquiry was through their form on their webpage with a picture of the satnav to aid their identification of the model, but you’ll get the gist; I just asked for information.  Their replies are in red.  Quite how they know the dealer will have an update while not knowing the version or when another update is due, I have no idea.  The search continues...…...

Yep, seems about right...Honda are way behind with their SatNavs and on-board electronics (e.g. Voice Control, SatNav, etc) compared to other vehicle manufacturers.

Shame, because the cars are awesome but they could do with enhancing their infotainment systems to come into the 21st century.

Good luck with it all

Finally had a response from Honda Customer Relations. They obviously have no more information than I do!! Life's too short, I think I'll buy a Garmin

Dear Mr Chandler,
Thank you for contacting Honda (UK).
I apologise for the delay in replying to you, Honda (UK) have been experiencing an unusually high case load which has affected our normal response time.
At Head Office we are unable to confirm the most up to date software on your vehicle without being to inspect the vehicle ourselves as this is not wireless, if you require any information regarding this you are best to contact your local dealership. If you would like me to I would be happy to contact "my local dealer name left out to spare their blushes" on your behalf.
If you would like me to contact them for you, then please respond to this email and I will be happy to make this enquiry.
If you require any further assistance then please contact us on 01344 444 489.
Thank you once again for contacting Honda (UK)
Kind Regards,

Hi Guys

Fascinating following these posts as we have a Series IV, November 2014 CRV and I have been trying on-and-off to find out about updating the satnav.

Ours is a Spanish registered car but still from Swindon.  The software version is 1.20.0300 as Boris's (not that one!).

If anyone is still reading these posts - any further info?

Thanks

David

I don't think there's much more advance on the SatNav updates of which Honda are way behind all other manufacturers.

However, if the roads haven't changed much over a couple of years then it should be fine....I have found Europe changes a lot but not so much the UK as road construction hasn't been going on much since all the cutbacks

Just bought a honda civic 2014 tourer. Used the sat Nav out of date. Telephoned honda garage, they said latest update is 2017. Cost of £130. Done by putting disc in which they have to do. They did say car 2015 model have different system and it can be updated through your phone.

Thanks for the update Paul....at least they're getting there with being able to update through the phone now.

Hi everybody, I found this site because I have a question about my March 2014 Diesel Civic Tourer's SatNav. When recently serviced I asked about SatNav software/map updates and was informed that Honda can't update it because it's over 5 years old (strange!) and I would have to contact Garmin directly about updating it myself, however after some research I have a feeling that the SatNav isn't made by Garmin. Does anyone know what make it might be so that I can find out about an update please. I know this is an old subject stream but I'm hoping someone may be able to help. Thank you in anticipation.

I have had the same problem with my 2014 CRV. I keep hitting the same brick wall with Honda. If they produce a vehicle with updatable equipment, then they should produce the updates when needed. I am in Scotland and a major duel carriageway built 4 years ago in my area doesn't appear on my sat nav, it shows me driving across fields. Major changes have been made in my local city which make the sat nav useless. why should I have to purchase a stick on window sat nav when I have one that should have more recent updates. Come on Honda, get your act together and support the people that buy your cars. Not everyone can afford to buy a new car.

I do feel that even the mobile phone-based SatNav apps don't appear to be that accurate when it comes down to closed roads, ULEZ zones and so many other bits of important information.
I have four different ones I used on my phone when out on the motorbike and they all give different information.

I think the current 'best one' I am using is TomTom which you can download onto your phone so no worry about signal outages.
I do think Google has lost out on accuracy but does show more info on traffic alerts

I am finding the Honda Navigation system utterly frustrating and impossible to do simple jobs such as deleting previous addresses. Looked for some simple delete system but now fed up with it!

Waze is an excellant alternative to Google Maps for navigating using my 'phone.

One year later I've just picked up this thread. Spent the last week going through the same circular and unsuccessful nonsense. HERE website refers to Honda dealership who deny all knowledge and say go online. Waste of time. I've come to the conclusion that the 2014 HDD Satnav has been unapologetically abandoned by Honda. The cost of it is probably prohibitive if it does exist. Conclusion: invest in a Tom Tom or Garmin Satnav. I find phone systems unreliable as they require a phone coverage which isn't always available. The rest of you probably have already gone the TomTom route. Thanks for confirming that I'm not the only one.
