Sat Nav copied disks - survey

Evening

Just a quick survey.

I know some say that copied sat nav dvd's can damage the sat nav unit. Is this really the case, or just a myth perpetuated by the main stealers to rip us off on updated map dvd's?

Personally, I've only used the original Honda ones.

Has anyone actually used a copied dvd, if so what was your experience.

How long have you used it, any issues, etc

Thanks

This is totally true, it's down to the dye in copied discs not working well with the optical pickups, causing them to work & spin constantly which ultimately exhausts them and causes accelerated wear. Particularly the case with the pre facelift accord v2.xx systems. the v3.xx systems seem less effected but i still wouldn't recommend it.

If you try a copied disc you'll hear a difference in how hard the drive is working and notice the extended time it takes for the ok button to appear after the warning message.

also need to be mindful of a certain ebay seller (nav-updatewho is selling copied discs that look like the real thing, they're not. their discs behave exactly as copied discs do. They couldn't confirm the authenticity of their discs and they refunded me immediately when i probed about it.

Hi all,

Is it possible to replace a mark 7 (2005) sat-nav unit with version 2.xx disc with a mark 8 (2007 0n) unit with version 3.xx disc (just the dvd unit) as 2.xx discs can only be updated to 2.11 - which is still well out of date ! I don`t want to fit an aftermarket unit if possible - or is it just not possible ? the size and mounting seem identical BUT - is it really that simple ?

Many thanks in advance for any replies.

Jim
