Scoobnut
Hi there I’m a new member. I have a 2019 20000 mile 1.3 Petrol jazz. It currently won’t start all it does is keep cranking even when you release the key
Trevor
sounds like a starter motor relay sticking?
Scoobnut
I thought the same but trying to find out where it’s located is another story. There is some relays in the fuse box under the bonnet but nothing on the fuse box lid to say what fuse and relay locations are.
Trevor
Could you upload a photo of the fusebox cover so we can see the relay locations
Scoobnut
Hi Trevor This is a picture of the fuse box under the bonnet.
Trevor
Thanks for the photo I do wonder if there is any water ingress into the fusebox as it is in the scuttle area where the water could enter into the fusebox and contaminate the relays. I would remove the relays one by one and examine them for any corrosion of possible contamination from water ingress. Also check the terminals in the fusebox as well and maybe if there is some contamination then apply silicon to the fusebox cover before refitting
Scoobnut
Thank you Trevor. Unfortunately the car has again decided not to start today and Honda assist is on their way. This is always the problem with an intermittent fault. It’s been fine for a while now. Hopefully they plug it into their onboard diagnostic machine and it tells them the problem 🤞

Scoobnut
So the the AA man turned up spent an hour trying to work out why it wouldn’t start apparently the fact that it keeps the starter engaged for a period after letting go of the key is normal so the problem lies elsewhere. The car is recovered to the Honda dealer they diagnose an EGR valve and almost £700 later we pick the car up. So here is to many more trouble free miles a bit steep for an EGR valve replacement but at least peace of mind. WRONG!!!!!! Get up the next morning to the exact same fault with the car refusing to start like it’s got no compression only now we are £700 lighter which luckily we videoed, the AA man turned up and lo and behold the car started. So I drove it back to the Honda dealer and it’s there as we speak hopefully it doesn’t start tomorrow morning. Thank you Trevor for your input.
Trevor
Oh crikey what a nightmare! Hopefully it is just a glitch and normal service resumes once they find what the issue is

Scoobnut
So the latest update is the car went to Honda last Friday they installed a software patch and they lent us a demonstrator and then they tried the car Saturday Monday and Tuesday and it started on every day they called and asked us to pick the car up as it seemed to be ok but we could not pick it up till the Thursday. I received a call Thursday morning to say not to go and pick it up as it was not starting so the problem was still there. Think the problem lies with the fact that left alone it probably will start without doing anything to it but then decide not to start again a few days later. Scoobnut
Just to be accurate with the timeline we were going to pick it up on the Wednesday as we couldn’t pick it up on the Tuesday and it was on the Wednesday morning we received the phone call to say it wasn’t starting. Apologies for the confusion
