CR-V 1997 to 2001

  1. Started by Willowthehat,

Hi guys, I have just purchased a 2001 Honda CRV 2.0 16v petrol 4x4 from Synetiq salvage auction. It is a catagory N due HH to the catalytic converter being stolen. I’m wondering whether this model has 1 or 2 o2 sensors? I’m suspecting 2, 1 before and 1 after the cat? I haven’t seen the vehicle yet but very much hoping the wiring for the o2 sensors haven’t been damaged when the cat was stolen. thanks in advance. Sam

Looking for any hints or tips please. A few days ago the radio on my CRV EX 2009 stopped working. But strangely everything else (CD, Aux, voice control, satnav sound) all works just fine. The unit is able to auto scan and record all local stations (so I assume not an aerial issue) RDS works fine. I can select a station but zero sound. Switch to CD or Aux and sound is just fine. Steering wheel controls work fine (but not on radio). Carefully went through the handbook and gone through all the menus, everything seems fine. Powered off the car (disconnected battery) and still no radio signal getting through. On some websites there is…

After the car is off overnight for lets say 8 hours I found antifreeze leak on a small flat metal part behind engine. Can somebody tell where it comes from? pictures attached After driving I have to wait those hours for that leak to appear there. no overheating though.

Hello, I have bought Honda CRV 1998 automatic. And have coolant problem. Mechanic put new radiator, new cap, pressure tested = changed hoses that were leaking. Pressure test again no visible leaks at all, holding pressure fine. Now I still lose 100 - 150 ml of coolant after 40 kilometers that I drive per day. When engine is cold next day morning I open radiator I see no coolant even after I squeeze that thick hose, but fits there only 100 or 150 ml of water /destiled of course/. If engine is hoter - 2 hours after driving and I open it I still can see little water after I squeeze that thick hose. Till morning it will be again no visible coolant even after squeezing that t…

  11. I have a 1999 Honda CRV, 2.0 petrol with a manual gearbox. Sometimes when I start the car the engine management light is on and the Rev counter doesn't work. When I accelerate the car judders until I change gear. Also, sometimes I start the car and there is no engine management light and the Rev counter is working, the car runs fine. I've changed the spark plugs, leads and air filter and it hasn't made any difference. The only other thing I noticed today is that the car was running fine, I stepped out for 2 minutes and left it running...it then just turned off on its own. When I restarted it the engine management light was b…

  13. Hi all, I had the cat stolen from my 1999 CRV and I've replaced the cat and various exhaust parts to get it going again, but now its reving high on idle, and after a couple of minutes the engine management light comes on. Now when I was replacing the exhaust I could only find one block connector coming from the wiring loom for a lambda sensor, but shouldn't it should have 2, and this might be why I have the problem?? The one I found was behind the engine block..... does anyone know if there should be 2, and is so where on earth does it go??? Thanks... pulling out what little hair I have left here!!

Hullo all, I have a 2001 crv that does not have any door locking or unlocking buttons on the arm rest. When I unlock the car, if I do not put the key in the ignition, then the doors all automatically re-lock after 30 seconds regardless of whether the doors have been opened or not. This has only recently started to happen after having the battery disconnected. How do I turn off this feature please?

Hello, I need to replace a fuel line that runs from the top of the fuel filter "to the engine". It's the one that has banjo connectors and is about 40cm long. There is a tear in it and fuel is dripping out when the system is under pressure. I can't get a new one, and had no luck finding a used one. Does anyone know if it would be the same part as for the Civic from that generation? Or is it a matter of getting individual parts and fashioning a new one myself? Any advice would be very welcome. Marcin

  19. 2001 Honda CRV petrol automatic. 99,000 miles. MOT failed through suspension rust. Good car otherwise. Good battery, 4 nearly new tyres, new exhaust and fan and cam belts changed 5k miles ago, clean interior, excellent engine and gearbox. Complete with spare extra aftermarket rear suspension components, brake drums and shoes. For sale as seen, no return. Very sad to see her go. £350.

I'm looking at buying a 1997 CRV with 250k miles for $3000. My main question is will it last me on road-trips/ highway miles? Context: It's being sold by a family who has owned it the entire time and taken good care of it. They've passed it down 3 generations but now the guy owning it has another car and it's in storage. He's done a lot to it, I'll just copy the list he gave me: 97 crv all wheel drive, freshly painted with a custom paint I made!, replaced majority of parts with oem! New drive shaft, struts, coils, upper and lower control arms, spark plugs, new battery, new oil gasket, valve adjustment, trans flushed, new differential, n…

Hello, does anyone have a first generation CR-V with the 126bhp engine and automatic gearbox? If so, what speed is your engine doing at 60mph (level road, steady speed)? I think my transmission, or somethin else, is slipping slightly, because the engine is doing about 3000rpms and stays there, and I thought it should be closer to 2500-2600rpms. Any advice would be much appreciated. There don't appear to be any other issues with the gearbox. It is selecting gears without any issues and the change is about as smooth as any other 4 speed automatic gearbox from that era.

Hi, I am new to Honda and might be buying my first but would appreciate any advice or tips. The car I am looking at has done 70K from new and seems to be mint with no rust or damage - almost too good to be true. My first question is general - are there any issues everyone knows about (except m() that I need to look out for? Fuel consumption seems to be high but even the original spec shows it to be high. What should I expect? Is the AWD full time AWD and does the car change the power to back and front depending on conditions? I have had Landrovers to date but they are not as good as they pretend off road so I thought a change would be good. …
