You may be able to remove the door card from inside if you shuffle the seat either backwards or forwards and undo the screws you can locate
The rest of the card should unclip from the pop clips in the door
Fingers crossed
Also, worth checking the fuel filter and replace if necessary
You can tell that its an issue if the rubber bulb at the filter housing is soft and takes a few pumps to stiffen up then the engine usually starts straight away afterwards
Just lucky you found it in time but worth getting them to check all the other wheels and anything else that could have not been tightened correctly (oil filter, sump plug, etc) and maybe the next service as a gesture of goodwill?
Gosh, you are showing your age Alan 🙂
However, I do also remember most of the ones you mention
Car Coats, Driving Gloves, Rug on the rear shelf (all of the aforementioned to keep you warm if you didn't order the optional interior heater)
It all comes back to the one issue, the car is not suitable for short distance driving at low revs for a sustained period of time.
Once you have managed to clear out the DPF then run it at high revs for longer in lower gears and it should be fine
Better quality fuel may help but not entirely convinced
Another issue that can occur from slow / low rev driving is that the turbo variable vanes can gum up with carbon deposits and although this can be cleaned with treatments that can be found on eBay it will occur every so often unless the carbon is not allowed to build up again
You don't tend to see dust covers now but if they are in good condition and you wish to refit them then at least it will provide another level of protection for the dampers
May be worth trying the dealer for the code sometimes costs but mostly I have got it for free
You will need the radio serial number and maybe the registration document to prove ownership
The long and short is that the engine is not being driven hard enough
When you mentioned that you did a long journey on a motorway and the light stayed off for some time then this is what needs to be done every so often to keep things clear.
Take a look at this post for further information:
This is normal as the air conditioning when it is switched onto 'recirculate air' extracts the moisture from the air and expels it under the vehicle when you stop, you will then notice the pool underneath
It is sometimes not a good thing to have the A/C switched onto Recirculation and should switch it to Fresh Air instead as it dries out the interior air a little too much
Possibly wheel bearing but if you were entering a left bend then it would be the offside bearing unless it is the rear one.
Really need to jack up each wheel and spin to hear if it is rough and/or noisy, although most of the time this only occurs under load when cornering
My belief is that if it went together it can come apart
However, I think you'll need to remove the mirror glass (without breaking it) and then the 'gubbins' inside to then remove the outer shell
The automatic gearbox is not the smoothest one in the market but perfectly usable around town especially for a new driver
You can always budget for an oil and filter change of the transmission fluid which may improve the shifting slightly
Sometimes the motor burns out on them
Check by putting 12 volts directly to the motor for a couple of seconds max to see if it spins, then work from there
You used to be able to get inserts for the coil springs (like a rubber buffer) but not sure if that sort of thing is available nowadays
Otherwise Airbag suspension maybe another option
Alternatively, you may be able to get stiffer springs for the rear
Some of those cruise ships need seeing to believe how absolutely enormous they actually are!
Must have been an exciting time as a diver and bet you have some tales to tell ?
