I don't think I'm as old as you Alan but I do remember most of the things you mentioned above
  2. Just lucky you found it in time but worth getting them to check all the other wheels and anything else that could have not been tightened correctly (oil filter, sump plug, etc) and maybe the next service as a gesture of goodwill?
  3. Did a google search and a few images on there but also found this video and not sure if its relevant to your situation

Gosh, you are showing your age Alan 🙂 However, I do also remember most of the ones you mention Car Coats, Driving Gloves, Rug on the rear shelf (all of the aforementioned to keep you warm if you didn't order the optional interior heater)
  5. It all comes back to the one issue, the car is not suitable for short distance driving at low revs for a sustained period of time. Once you have managed to clear out the DPF then run it at high revs for longer in lower gears and it should be fine Better quality fuel may help but not entirely convinced Another issue that can occur from slow / low rev driving is that the turbo variable vanes can gum up with carbon deposits and although this can be cleaned with treatments that can be found on eBay it will occur every so often unless the carbon is not allowed to build up again
  6. You could get a stainless steel system made up for it cheaper than you would think Also, lasts forever and definitely sound better as well
  7. You don't tend to see dust covers now but if they are in good condition and you wish to refit them then at least it will provide another level of protection for the dampers
  8. May be worth trying the dealer for the code sometimes costs but mostly I have got it for free You will need the radio serial number and maybe the registration document to prove ownership
  9. Sorry to hear that sad news I have moved the post into the General Discussions section which may prompt a response from some of the members
  10. The long and short is that the engine is not being driven hard enough When you mentioned that you did a long journey on a motorway and the light stayed off for some time then this is what needs to be done every so often to keep things clear. Take a look at this post for further information:

Murco was another station you don't see too many of nowadays
  12. This is normal as the air conditioning when it is switched onto 'recirculate air' extracts the moisture from the air and expels it under the vehicle when you stop, you will then notice the pool underneath It is sometimes not a good thing to have the A/C switched onto Recirculation and should switch it to Fresh Air instead as it dries out the interior air a little too much
  13. Possibly wheel bearing but if you were entering a left bend then it would be the offside bearing unless it is the rear one. Really need to jack up each wheel and spin to hear if it is rough and/or noisy, although most of the time this only occurs under load when cornering
  14. My belief is that if it went together it can come apart However, I think you'll need to remove the mirror glass (without breaking it) and then the 'gubbins' inside to then remove the outer shell
  15. The automatic gearbox is not the smoothest one in the market but perfectly usable around town especially for a new driver You can always budget for an oil and filter change of the transmission fluid which may improve the shifting slightly
  16. Agreed Esso is probably the best fuel to put in any car (or motorbike) and mostly comparable to Supermarket fuel costs
  17. Sometimes the motor burns out on them Check by putting 12 volts directly to the motor for a couple of seconds max to see if it spins, then work from there

You used to be able to get inserts for the coil springs (like a rubber buffer) but not sure if that sort of thing is available nowadays Otherwise Airbag suspension maybe another option Alternatively, you may be able to get stiffer springs for the rear
  19. Lol...some were worthless, even then but others ..... well as they say "if you knew then what you know now"
  20. Some of those cruise ships need seeing to believe how absolutely enormous they actually are! Must have been an exciting time as a diver and bet you have some tales to tell ?
  21. They do make a hell of a din when driving and definitely best to fit only when you need them
  22. Glad to hear you got it all installed (relatively unscathed) its a bit more of a job trying to find a permanent live in the fusebox though as did one on mine and took me ages to find a live with the multimeter
  23. If the gas is full and no leaks then it has to be the condenser blocked or even the cabin filter not allowing cold air through?
  24. First thoughts are battery condition as any drop in battery voltage if the car hasn't been used for a while can result in the myriad of lights coming on Check the battery and also check any fault codes in the ECU's to give a more accurate diagnosis of the fault
  25. My list is as follows (in no particular order): Triumph Herald (first car), many Rover and MG over the years, lots of American and custom cars, plenty of classic cars, motorbikes and just about anything with wheels. Just wished I had the foresight to keep them all 😞
